Patti Engineering Hired to Convert Obsolete Siemens S5 PLCs to Latest Siemens S7 Control Platform

Patti Engineering, a certified Siemens Solution Partner, is pleased to be providing engineering services to a global leader in automotive clamping and connection solutions. We are converting machines with existing obsolete Siemens S5 PLC’s to the latest comparable Siemens S7 control platform.

With discontinuation of the S5 product series, maintenance of these control systems is becoming more difficult and expensive. Costly production downtimes can result. Therefore, migration from Siemens S5 controllers to Siemens S7 is always a wise decision, providing increased automation system functionality, availability, and efficiency.

Patti Engineering is providing the necessary engineering labor to provide Siemens program conversion services using the latest version of Siemens. The program conversion will be based on the standard statement list format to conform to the customer’s standard machinery. This conversion will be used as the template for future conversions of the same equipment. Patti Engineering will also include updated electrical documentation.

In addition to the conversion, Patti Engineering is adding a new operator interface. Our engineers will review the HMI requirements (immediate and future) with the customer’s personnel prior to start of design. The new operator interface will replace the existing interface push buttons, timers, panel meters and thumb wheel controls. This hardware will provide the ability to add functionality (visualization or control) in the future.

The new operator interface panel layout and design will be vast improvement on the old 1970’s style interface. The more intelligent, user-friendly operator interface will allow for easy training and more efficient operator control.

Patti Engineering will provide onsite engineering assistance. While onsite, we will work with the customer’s personnel to install and start-up the converted software and hardware. We will work to thoroughly debug and verify the operational functionality of the conversion.
